Mawathagama Export Processing Zone (EPZ)

Located in the Kurunegala District of Sri Lanka’s North Western Province, the Mawathagama EPZ began operations in 2000. The zone spans 53 acres, with 30 acres allocated for industrial use. It is situated approximately 106 km from Colombo and is designed to accommodate low-polluting and less water-consuming industries.

The zone supports a workforce of over 5,700, with a significant female majority. Infrastructure includes asphalt-paved internal roads, a 4 MVA power supply through a dedicated 33 kV high-tension line, and water sourced from tube wells (50,000 gallons/day) treated to WHO standards. Communication facilities support local and international connectivity, while security lighting and chain-link fencing provide perimeter safety. The zone also houses a centralized administrative building offering BOI services.
