Horana Export Processing Zone (EPZ)

Situated in the Ingiriya Divisional Secretariat of Western Province’s Kalutara District, Horana EPZ was launched in 1999 and spans 391 acres, with approximately 189 acres allocated for industrial development. Located about 55 km from Colombo, it’s also 80 km from Bandaranaike International Airport, and 16 km from the Southern Highway via the Horana EPZ access road.

The zone accommodates roughly 3,423 workers (637 female and 2,786 male) and is designed for industries of varied scales. Infrastructure includes asphalt concrete internal roads, a sewerage and effluent collection system with 1,000 m³/day treatment capacity, and 24×7 security supported by chain-link fencing and lighting. Utility infrastructure features potable water supply at 3,000 m³/day up to WHO standards, power supplied via a dedicated 63 MVA grid sub-station, and full telecommunications with telephone, email, and Internet connectivity (200 SLT lines). Although no central administrative complex is listed, the site boasts robust core and support infrastructure, making it well-suited for industrial operations.
