Seethawaka Export Processing Zone (EPZ)
Located in the Western Province’s Colombo District (Seethawake Divisional Secretariat), Seethawaka EPZ began operations in 1999 and covers a total area of 431 acres, including 184 acres designated for industrial use. Situated just 50 km from Colombo, the zone supports approximately 21,916 workers (9,616 female and 3,297 male). As the only BOI zone within Colombo District, it hosts a variety of enterprises across multiple sectors.
The zone offers robust infrastructure: asphalt-surfaced roads to all plots, a sewer and effluent system with a 9,900 m³/day treatment capacity, WHO-standard water storage (9,950 m³), and reliable power supply (63 MVA from a grid substation). Communication is facilitated by a 400-line exchange offering local, IDD, and fax services. Security lighting, chain‑link fencing, and fire protection equipment are in place. The centralized administrative complex houses BOI service units along with banking and other utility services.
